Trainer: Mattie Weiss (she/her/hers) – Vice President

Mattie is a veteran trainer and movement builder from the world of progressive politics, with roles ranging from union organizer to racial justice researcher and writer, ballot initiative campaign director to community muralist, campaign strategist to author. She started writing and training with the League of Pissed Off Voters, where she co-authored How to Get Stupid White Men Out of Office. She served as the Director of Training Programs at Wellstone Action, and the National Director of Organizing and Training at Educators for Excellence. Mattie has lived and traveled all over the world and is trilingual (English, Portuguese and Spanish). Mattie lives in Minneapolis with her partner and two sons. She loves to paint, and is part of Poligraphix, a crew of political graphic artists in the Twin Cities.

To create a classroom-like, live-learning experience, treat this like an “in-person” event and co-create the learning with us. We’ll share our best practices and tools and create an engaging community of learning; what we need from you is to be fully present in the “training room” with us!

Tips to maximize learning:

  • “Unplug" from other work duties during this time.

    • Mark this training on your calendar, put up an out-of-office message, turn off email notifications, and silence your phones. There will be plenty of breaks for you to check on things.

  • We’ll be at home with you! We anticipate and welcome pets, family, roommates, and real life situations (like burning the toast). Sweatpants are welcome, and so is eating on camera!

  • Everyone will get more if everyone is willing to participate. We don’t hire “bots” to train - our trainers are real people who have managed through big and hard things and have many stories to share. Every training is shaped by you, the participants through the situations, conundrums and questions you share out loud (or over chat) - so come with your challenges!
